While listening to one of my favorite teachers in self and business improvement, Don Hutson, he said something that reminded me of my chosen field, real estate. He quoted the great Jim Rohn saying, ”Keep on doing what you’ve been doing and you’ll keep on getting what you’ve been getting.” After considering the statement, Don said, regarding business, aren’t we really getting less if we apply that philosophy? What business do you know that is exactly the same as it was twenty years ago or even two years ago for that matter. Business is dynamic, constantly changing to keep up with the competition, public demands, technology and dozens of other criteria I could cover. So wouldn’t it stand to reason, if you were affiliated with or doing business with a company that clings to status quo or desires a static environment, that you are actually losing ground? During the seven years I’ve been making my living in real estate sales, this has never been more obvious than in today’s business environment. I have seen agents who have pulled the reins in on marketing and personal growth or have simply gotten out of the business rather than learning to reposition themselves, to grow, so they can earn more listings and to compete on value rather than price.
